RURAL HOME OF THE YEAR – Black Ridge

Freestanding wood fireplace

As the only heating source in this home just outside of Whangarei, the fire had to deliver performance. The solution was a freestanding Tasman Woodburner; and like the house itself it is modest in scale but packs a punch when it comes to efficiency, longevity and heat output. Placed on the polished concrete floor, there is no need for a hearth.

Designed by Toby Chapman-Smith and Benjamin Connor, this house is aptly called Black Ridge as it sits on top op a hill. It uses a lot of raw natural materials, and is the Rural Home of the Year 2022 winner.
